Alright, here's my old GI Joe pitch. I barely remember what any of this means. I literally haven't thought about GI Joe since I pitched this. I was into it though... I remember loving that comic where the guy in the Hawaiian shirt kills Cobra Commander.
GI JOE PITCH – 10-18-13 Landry Q. Walker
The original Cobra Commander is very much alive. His "death" was actually that of a clone created via the MASS device. This was part of a calculated plan -- as was the consequent shift in leadership. The more public Cobra organization run by Krake has been a diversionary tactic concocted by the original Cobra Commander to address G.I. Joe's increasing interference, which was inhibiting Cobra's covert operations.
At the behest of the Commander, Destro has been using the MASS device to infuse a new army of Cobra soldiers with the combined traits of Snake-Eyes, Zartan, and Helix. This alteration to the “program” that allows reintegration of bodies upon teleportation severely limits the lifespan of the subject, but the benefits of creating the world's first superhuman army outweighs the negative consequence of disposable super-soldiers.
Destro has attempted to repair his body – with limited success. He no longer has to wear his iron suit, but he chooses to leave his mask on to cover the face long ruined by his original MASS teleportation. Parts of his decayed and destroyed tissue are now cybernetic, removing him further and further from his humanity. He clings to a barely remembered shadow of his honor, but beyond that there is little left of the Scottish Laird.
In the meantime, Krake begins his plans to launch a doomsday machine. A very public clash between GI Joe and Cobra stops the process – mostly. Many die, and the property damage is unimaginable. The Krake run Cobra seems to be obliterated, with very few of the major players surviving.
At this point, GI Joe has lost almost all public, and therefore government, support. The organization is in ruins and many of the members are being called to stand trial for War Crimes.
There appears to be no one left to interfere with the operations of the original Cobra Commander.
Duke, Scarlet, Snake-Eyes, Mainframe , and a handful of others survive on board a barely functioning submarine HQ. Mainframe becomes alarmed when he discovers activity in an online database belonging to the deceased Ward Michaelmas (AKA: Brainstorm). Using stolen data-cards of the people scanned during GI Joe's experiments with their own MASS device, Destro has been able to reconstruct an altered version of Brainstorm's disembodied mind. This mind is helping advance the further development of MASS, but has also managed to reach out and give the remaining Joes an inkling of what is transpiring.
The problem for the Joe's is the fact that Cobra really does
control the world. It holds the economy hostage, it places the politicians in
office, it controls the distribution of food and water and entertainment. In
the end, there is only one way to truly free the world from the grip of the
evil empire:
Destroy it, and trust in humanity to survive and rebuild. At the end, the borders of countries are changed. The political climate has changed. It is a different world, as the one we know could not survive in an atmosphere of endless chaos, manipulation, and war.
Damn. That's a really good pitch. It might have been a little too much for the publisher but the lasting effects would continue on. It's Bold & Brilliant
